Deborah Hatakana is a Toronto-based ceramist, with a background in textiles and graphic design, which has led to her cross-disciplinary explorations. She is inspired by landscapes and the natural world. Her most recent works involve Nerikomi techniques with clay, recognized by FUSION: The Ontario Clay and Glass Association in 2025 with a Henry Goodman Best in Show Award, at their Biennial Exhibition, Fireworks. Her work also appeared in the recent Toronto Potters 23rd Biennial at Craft Ontario 401 Gallery.

Artist Statement
I draw inspiration from the natural world, reflecting and reimagining landscapes by layering and slicing pigmented clay to create Nerikomi blocks. I am fascinated by how the infinite pattern-making possibilities of Nerikomi can become a conversation between control and chance, where the material itself holds onto moments of transformation.

Monthly Meetings will be held at  Toronto Potters Studio, 180 Shaw St. Studio #107, unless otherwise indicated
