We serve tea and snacks in the cozy Toronto Potters Studio.
Jacquie’s demonstration will involve discussing considerations for stencil printing methods in using a digital cutter (like a Cricut printer) with adhesive stencil (glaze resist), Tyvek (underglaze resist), tar paper and craft foam for textural effects.
Jacquie Blondin is a ceramic artist based in Mississauga, ON. Having graduated from McMaster University with a Bachelor Degree in Art and Art History, she has been an arts educator for 30 years challenging students to develop their own creative skills. Working in stoneware, she explores her ideas through sculptural forms, as well as maintaining a studio practice that embraces functional pottery. In 2016, she renewed her own passion for learning, focusing on ceramics and business training. Since then, she has participated in retail sales and gallery exhibitions within the GTA and has recently launched her new business: teaching online courses, marketing pottery tools, and introducing her latest creations in ceramics.
Artist Statement
To express the challenges of balancing the facets of daily life artistically, I manipulate simple geometric shapes into beautiful forms. Working with soft slabs, I model solid forms cast from original domestic forms and then deconstruct and reassemble them to explore surface tension and contrasts between volume and mass. I smooth and distress the surfaces to both obscure and expose the clay body itself. My sculptural forms have been stabilized and lifted from the display surface to further elevate and balance the forms and to create a sense of lightness and solidity.
