TORONTO POTTERS MEETING
Clay Collage with Carolynn Bloomer
Carolynn will show images of her works at 7:00 pm, followed by a demo of Clay Collage.
Carolynn enjoys the tactility of the clay and loves using handmade ware and creating utilitarian pottery. In her studio she explores both functional and sculptural works. Her created objects - even if not strictly functional – usually sit on a table and connote holding and containing.
Her mixed media wall works are about domesticity and detritus, both physical and mental. She juxtaposes disparate objects (those with perceived beauty or value, with more banal, ubiquitous things), to impose a formality of sorts that works abstractly, but also alludes to possible narratives.
Carolynn studied Fine Art and Ceramics at John Abbott College in Quebec, and Ontario College of Art (now OCADU), focusing on design and material techniques related particularly to ceramics. She has conducted workshops and classes for Toronto Potters, Ontario College of Art, Burlington Potters, Clay Design, and she has done projects in secondary and elementary schools in the Toronto area. Publications include one piece reproduced in the book Great Soup, Empty Bowls, produced by the Gardiner Museum of Ceramic Art. Her work has included private and corporate commissions. It is in the collection of Scotiabank and has been purchased by Foreign Affairs and International Trade Canada.
Toronto Potters invite all members to meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month at the Gardiner Museum between 7:00-8:45pm, to connect with colleagues and new members, to network and to find out what’s coming up in the community of ceramics. To join or renew your membership CLICK HERE.
