Information
Susan Card established a studio in Toronto (1986) while studying ceramics at Sheridan College, subsequent to completing a B.H.Ec. (textiles) and B.F.A (painting) (University of Manitoba). In 2006, Card relocated her studio, DISH GALLERY + Studio, to the Distillery Historic District, Toronto. Her colourful porcelain and smoke-fired pottery is commissioned by private and corporate clients.
Card has exhibited widely for over twenty-five years in solo, group, juried and curated exhibitions, has presented technical workshops, lectures, pottery demonstrations, published many articles about ceramics in national and international publications and served as a juror and curator for several exhibitions.
Her work was featured in the Hollywood movie “The End of Summer” starring Jacqueline Bissett (1995). Commissions include adaptations of Japanese Edo period pottery for the Royal Ontario Museum and objects for two episodes of Museum Secrets, which aired on the History Channel, 2011. Card held a part-time faculty position at Sheridan College, Oakville, Ontario (1996 – 2003) and taught recreational pottery for the City of Toronto for twelve years.
Volunteering over the past twenty-five years, Card has organized auctions, exhibitions, workshops and conferences for arts organizations. Currently she volunteers on the Permanent Collections Committee at the Art Gallery of Burlington, and participates on the executive of two pottery guilds organizing speakers’ programmes. She is a former FUSION Board Chair, Toronto Outdoor Art Fair Board Member, Toronto Potters President and served on the Advisory for Inspirations studio.
