BIOGRAPHY

Darryl Barnes is a self taught potter who lives in Toronto. From a very early age Darryl enjoyed making things from the local clay pit near his house. In grade 6, (1972) Darryl had an amazing art teacher, David Maguire, who introduced him to real clay. Always interested in working with clay, Darryl picked up the thrill of playing in clay again in the year 2000. Today, Darryl has his own studio where he works as a part time potter and pottery teacher. When Darryl retires, he plans to make the life of a potter, his new career.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I have been making pottery on the wheel for many years. I am a self taught potter and I love a new challenge. I enjoy making functional pieces which range from tumblers to lidded casserole dishes. My pieces are one of a kind and usually have many layered glazes which often make the piece a true one of a kind. Lately I have started making pieces that are constructed by joining many pieces together to make lamps and vases. I have also started teaching which adds a new level of challenge to my love of working in clay.
