Aneela Dias-D’Sousa
Information
Aneela Dias-D’Sousa began her career as a Ceramist while she pursued her bachelors of Fine Art degree from the University of Mumbai, India. Here she received recognition for her work through National awards such as the All India Fine Arts and Crafts Scholarship and the State Art Merit Award.
In 2007 Aneela moved to Toronto and was admitted as a mature student to the Crafts and Design program at Sheridan where her aesthetic sensibility changed to reflect her change in environment. Soon after, Aneela was accepted as a resident at Toronto’s Harbourfront Centre.
Aneela has this to say about her work ‘The concepts for my work are based on personal experience. They describe passing thoughts, transient phases and fleeting emotions in a minimalist style. They are a visual statement about change, growth and a personal story.’
In 2009 Aneela received a grant from the Ontario Arts Council as well as the New Artisan Scholarship award from the One of a Kind Show, the Fusion Award in 2008 and 2010.
She has also exhibited at the Gardiner Museum, the Ontario Crafts Council Gallery, Harbourfront Centre, the Toronto Outdoor Art exhibition and the Thames Art Gallery to name a few.
In addition, Aneela has actively supported the ceramic arts in Toronto by involving herself with Toronto Potters as their Director of Exhibitions and as a member of Fusion and the Ontario Crafts Council.
