TORONTO POTTERS MONTHLY MEETING
Artist Presentation
with Thomas Haskell
Toronto Potters Studio,
180 Shaw Street, Studio 107
Join Thomas Haskell Tuesday September 24th 7:00-9:00 pm at Toronto Potters Studio to learn about his unique inspiration and to hear stories about personal experiences that have shaped his practise, including about working on the GCPTD set.
After leaving Trinidad, the home where he grew up, in 2008 Thomas Haskell embarked on a career in art, with substantial technical skills. He specialized in Sculpture at York University in Toronto, where he was Co-Director of Samuel J Zack’s Gallery (2011-2012). Haskell subsequently received an M.F.A at OCAD University in the Art, Media and Design programme.
He has extensive experience teaching art to kids and teens, including at Toronto Potters Studio, as well as being a TA for first year students at OCAD.
His exhibition history dates to 2011 in Trinidad and Tobago; more recently his work has been shown at Gallery 1313 and the Gladstone Hotel in Toronto and at the Robert Langdon Gallery in Waterloo, part of the FUSION Breakthrough Exhibition. However, his most celebrated work was his performance in The Great Canadian Pottery Throw Down, which aired on CBC in February of this year.
Bonnie Devine, Associate Professor, OCAD University writes of Thomas Haskell:
“Talented, Dedicated, Meticulous and inspired, Thomas Haskell is a figurative sculptor and writer with significant imaginative and observational gifts. His graduate thesis work (2017) comments incisively on identity, history, and spectacle through the lens of contemporary Trinidadian Carnival and takes up issues of Colonialism, political struggle, and resurgence in dark, fanciful, celebratory style.”
Due to a lengthy renovation at the Gardiner Museum, our Monthly Meetings will be held at
Toronto Potters Studio, 180 Shaw St. Studio #107, unless otherwise indicated
