September Monthly Meeting

Tuesday September 26th 2023, 7:00-8:30pm
TORONTO POTTERS MONTHLY MEETING

Artist Talk & Demonstration

with Hannun Lyn

Toronto Potters Studio,
180 Shaw Street, Studio 107

Programme Description

Hannun Lyn will discuss her early work with porcelain, her subsequent foray into cone six and then her return to porcelain.

Hannun Lyn’s work stems from a culmination of life experiences, spiritual practice and technical prowess in melding both the East and the West. She was brought up with traditional Chinese culture and rituals, while surrounded by the customs and mores of North American life. She views Buddhism not as a religion but as a way of life.  Her work is a continual exercise in thought, awareness, and presence. Her goal is to not only explore the passion that she possesses for porcelain and the process of her craft, but also the compassion the clay extends to her. Reflecting her upbringing, she is influenced by the ceramics of the Chinese Tang and Sung dynasties and contemporary works from artists such as Isamu Noguchi, Rudolph Staffel, Steve Heinemann and Harlan House.

Born in Jamaica, raised in Montreal, Hannun Lyn holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Concordia University) and diploma in ceramics from Sheridan College. A practising Buddhist, Lyn’s porcelain reflects her own culturally diverse life. This award-winning artist lives and works in downtown Toronto.

Her works have been exhibited at Gardiner Museum Shop, Distill Gallery, and Muse in Toronto, Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery and Harbinger Gallery in Waterloo and the shop in Burlington Art Centre (now Art Gallery of Burlington).

Toronto Potters invite all members to meet on the 4th Tuesday of each month between 7:00-8:30pm, to connect with colleagues and new members, to network and to find out what’s coming up in the community of ceramics. To join or renew your membership CLICK HERE.
