Toronto Potters - Kathleen Matsushita

Kathy enjoys ceramics because of the therapeutic benefits and the never-ending challenges that occur. Porcelain is the clay of choice as it provides the qualities necessary for intricate carving and the ideal surface for painting with underglazes.Glazes which pool in the recesses of carved lines are utilized to enhance the delicate artwork.

The focus is on functional pottery which is a joy to use. The subject matter is often inspired by the natural beauty of the environment that has been encountered on her travels.

Her pieces have found their way to England, South Africa, China, Japan, Korea, and the United States. She is thrilled to be included in the permanent collections of the Burlington Art Centre and Cedar Ridge Studio Gallery in Scarborough.
