Debra Hillier Bio
One of my favorite books “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten”, by Robert Fulghum sums up my approach to pottery – simple but functional, colourful and playful, and enjoyable to use.
I have always had my hand into crafts. Sewing, knitting, painting and quilting just to name a few and then I discovered pottery. I am still pleased when I turn a lump of clay into something functional.
Mostly I make bowls and I believe one can never have too many bowls. When people look at my bowls and ask how will I use it? I am always surprised because I can’t think of a way not to use a bowl. I can imagine eating everything from cereal at breakfast to ice cream for dessert in one of my favorite bowls or to simply just appreciate and enjoy the form and colour.
I feel a sense of delight knowing that people who own one of my bowls will enjoy it for the feel and shape, the colours that brighten their surroundings and bits of whimsy to make them smile.
